We built this because renting gear in Copenhagen was broken.

Wedio started in 2023 when our co-founders kept running into the same problem: expensive gear sitting idle in filmmaker studios while other filmmakers couldn't afford to access it.

The independent film community in Copenhagen is serious. There's real craft here — documentary makers with decades of work, commercial directors pushing into narrative, short film directors trying to break through. But the infrastructure for gear access has always been either expensive hire houses with minimum booking periods, or informal favours between friends.

Wedio is the layer in between: verified, insured, P2P. The idea is simple. Most cinema cameras sit idle for most of the year. Most filmmakers who want access to that gear can't afford to buy it. We built the marketplace to connect those two groups, with trust infrastructure that makes lending expensive equipment to a stranger actually viable.

We're based at Nørregade 26 in Copenhagen's city centre. We're small — a team of three people — and we're building this for the community we're part of. We're not trying to replace hire houses. We're filling the gap they don't serve.

What we care about

Access

Cinema gear should be accessible to the filmmaker who needs it for this weekend's shoot, not just to those who can afford to own it outright. Ownership has never been the right model for professional tools used intermittently.

Trust

Insurance, condition reports, and verified profiles exist because lending expensive gear to a stranger requires a layer of institutional trust. We built that layer so the community doesn't have to rely on personal relationships to access the gear they need.

Craft

We're filmmakers too. We know the difference between gear that's in the right hands and gear that's just being rented. We want Wedio to serve the work — the actual making of things — not just the transaction.

Find the gear. Make the film.

Rent from the community or list what you own between shoots. No hire house minimums, no Monday phone calls.
